Holiday Essentials:

Due to the Pandemic not so many of us are heading off to sunny climes this year. However it looks as though it may be a sunny August at home and perhaps you are thinking of booking some winter sun later in the year. So I thought I would share with you some of my favourite summer products that I’d not be without and will be stashed in my suitcase if I get to go on holiday.

I’ve included links to all the products mentioned – don’t forget to use code ‘linda’ at checkout to claim a discount.

Firstly a bit of pre-holiday prep and Viridian SPF Factors act as an internal sunscreen to reduce your risks of burning in the sun and to keep your skin healthier. The Astax anthin and Carotenes are antioxidants which give protection to your skin (although does not replace the need for sun cream).

You may want to give your skin some exfoliation too and the Alba Botanica have a lovely refreshing grapefruit body scrub as well as a range of luxurious Hawaiian products which smell gorgeous and will help you to feel that you’re on holiday even if you can’t go abroad!

Pretty much all commercial sun creams are a toxic mix of chemicals many of which are carcinogenic and these are absorbed into your skin. So whilst protecting you from sunburn sun creams will increase the toxic load in your body which could contribute to other forms of cancers. The Green People sun creams are just lovely! Completely natural and organic, they rub in easily and they really work well. It is all my family and I ever use.

Let’s give consideration to your gut too – the change of environment, water and food can disrupt your gut microbiome leading to the all too common ‘traveller’s diarrhoea’ which can really spoil your holiday. I always take Optibac for Tavelling abroad for a few days before I go away and throughout the holiday. When my daughter went to Thailand for four weeks she was the only one out a large group who didn’t suffer digestive upset thanks to taking this. In case your tummy is extra sensitive you can also take some ‘just in case’ probiotics that you can use as a treatment. I recommend these: GHN Prescriptbiotics & Optibac S.Boulardii.

If you find that you struggle to avoid over indulging it’s good to take some extra liver support to help your body deal with this. I recommend using Liver Health Formula.

In these times of increased awareness of contamination from viruses and germs you won’t want to travel without your hand sanitiser. As with sun creams most sanitisers are full of toxic chemicals which can actually lower your immunity. Alcohol is also very drying to the skin. Again I recommend a natural version and the Cleanrite spray is just as effective but without any nasty ingredients.

So, whatever your plans I hope that you get to make the most of the rest of the summer and do try to get outside and soak up some sunshine even if it’s only in the garden. Vitamin D is so important to prime your immune system (and you will need some sun exposure without any sun cream to top this up). I really recommend that you get your Vitamin D tested (ask your GP or order a test kit here: www.betteryou.co.uk/vitamin-d-test ) by the autumn and then supplement as necessary through the winter to make sure your level is around the 100-120 mark.

Remember to stay well hydrated on holiday and keep up with healthy eating as much as you can.  Buffets are always great for stocking up on fruit and salad or if you are going a-la-carte try to look for the healthier options on the menu.

I always look on holidays as an extension of my self-care and wellness lifestyle rather than an excuse to eat and drink badly. Walking and swimming can keep up or even improve your level of fitness and joining in with hotel yoga classes is something that I always like to do if there is an opportunity. It’s good to also take time to be mindful and fully relax, this way you will really feel the benefits or your time away.
